. . . . The Maya people of Mexico are most known for their incredible mathematic abilities and understanding of astronomy. They accurately measured time and dates with a sophisticated calendar, and they tracked the movements and cycles of the Sun and Venus. Various archeological sites throughout Mexico have provided insite on what knowledge the Maya could have possessed.
. . . . Chichen Itza, a site on the Yucatan Peninsula, was a regional center of the Maya of Mexico. This site alone provides many examples of what was important in Mayan society. Other examples can be found at the archeological sites of Coba and Tulum. The quality and accuracy of Maya mathematics and astronomy was not yet discovered or inherited by western civilization. When did the Westerners catch up?
